Ea filter ????

Why on earth would Amsoil sell such a good filter and not put edges on it to use a oil wrench to remove it???

Many of the AMSOIL oil filters DO have fluting on the can to help with removal. However, some do not. The provider of our filter canisters has been notified by AMSOIL that we would like to see more universal fluting of the cans for eases of removal as well as any additional mechanisms we may be able to incorporate to make for easier removal of the cans.

I appreciate the question as it is one that does come up on occasion and is definitely one that is worth investigating. Rest assured that I've contacted AMSOIL about it and have been assured by them that the issue IS being looked into and should be addressed soon.

Boy, I second that sentiment. I wrestled with getting an EA off of my 3.2 L Intrepid for 30 minutes because the placement of the filter on the engine leaves little room around it, dictating removal from the end. I finally go a web type wrap around tool that allowed me to get it off (just barely), but with all the other filter removal devices I have, being forced to buy still another didn't make me happy. In fact, if Amsoil doesn't change the design I probably will go back to Purolators because I fear eventually I won't be able to remove the Amsoil at all.

AS much as I agree with the sentiment and understand the frustration of not being able to remove a filter (I've been there on numerous occasions with many brands), I have to say that, I'd far rather spend a little extra time removing my filter than sacrifice engine protection by using an inferior filter. I know that's the type of response you'd probably expect from a dealer of AMSOIL filters, but, the filtration ability of these filters really is considerably better than other brands, especially Purolator.

I would never sacrifice engine protection to save a few minutes of my time. My time IS valuable to me, but vehicles and engines are simply too expensive to risk premature deterioration in performance due to the use of lesser oils and filters.

I never have any problem removing a smooth filter cannister like this
with a standard filter wrench because I have learned to not overtighten the filter.

A very good point to be made. Most times, if an individual has much trouble removing a filter it is because of overtightening or no lubing of the gasket prior to installation. However, on the flip side, it is understandable since folks are concerned about the filter loosening up and leaking.

Best not to over tighten. I've been using these for several years and can get them off with a standard metal oil filter wrench and I lube the gasket with new oil and turn it about a half turn after making gasket contact when installing.
